Jo Montgomery, ARNP
Nurse Practitioner

At the age of 14, Jo Montgomery was detassling corn in the fields of Ames, Iowa. Even then she knew that someday she would practice medicine.

One of her earliest medical experiences took place in Zululand, South Africa, where she lived for a year with her parents, who were medical missionaries.

“I helped the staff with many tasks, including doing electrocardiograms for patients.”

Besides teaching her how to do EKGs, Jo’s parents instilled in her a compassion and appreciation for the good in others “no matter how odd or rough the exterior seems.”

After completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa, Jo received her Master’s in nursing as well as her nurse practitioner degree from the University of Washington.

She was hired by Children’s Hospital in 1983, working as an RN on the post-surgical floor for seven years before moving to the ER and occasionally filling in at Odessa Brown. She became a regular staff member at OBCC in 1995.

Jo has another illustrious career as an acrobatics instructor and performer. She started a circus school where she still teaches classes, and she occasionally performs with her partner, Chuck.

Jo also loves to garden, hike and spend time with her daughter, Maggie.
