Lenna Liu, MD, MPH
Pediatrician
Lenna, a first-generation Taiwanese-American born in Pittsburgh, has always loved children and knew early on that she wanted to become either a teacher or a pediatrician.
While growing up, she also developed interests in art, dance and playing the piano. But school came first. Her parents instilled in her the importance of education and working hard.
Lenna completed her undergraduate work at Cornell University and earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She moved to Seattle for her pediatric residency in 1992. Lucky for Odessa Brown, Lenna spent some of her residency here – and never left. She’s worked at OBCC ever since then.
Becoming a mother of two sons helped Lenna become an even better pediatrician.
“I have tremendous empathy for parents and knowing that much of what I do is supporting them. I love that part of my job and learn a lot about the variety of parenting styles and approaches from the parents that I meet.”
Recently Lenna has been working on the prevention and management of childhood obesity, which she says is one of the most pressing public health issues in the years to come.
“I am committed to my and OBCC being a part of the solution at every level — with individual patients and families, schools and community organizations, health care institutions, and policy-making.”
In her free time, Lenna enjoys yoga and acrobatics classes, and she hopes to someday be able to perform a handstand all by herself.

| “I have the best possible job I could ever imagine,” says Lenna, who is also an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the UW School of Medicine. “I am grateful to all the families and my colleagues for all they share with me and for making my work something that brings me great joy and energy and perspective on life. I learn something from them every day and hope that I can contribute something positive to this community in return.” |
